Brown Owls

On monday night I attended my second Brown Owls meeting. It was a Cupcake and Mulled wine Material swap! That's quite a mouth full to say and write. We brought along 5 fat quarters wrapped in newspaper to swap. I ended up with this stash.

IMG_0599

some pretty cool fabrics, Love the three at the front..Ive always wanted that fish fabric...Thanks ladies. I sat with some great gals and learned to crochet not something I was not expecting to do.Jo was teaching Cindyand I sat in and then ended up with some of Jo's wool and before I knew it I was hooked! Pardon the Pun. So Im slowly coming along...

IMG_0600

The pink one at the top was the first one I did with Jo, and the one with the pink boarder was my at home attempt and as you can see my third is getting neater. However Im still having trouble with joining the round, but I got on to Pip's blog and worked out what I was doing wrong. So I have to say a Big Thank you to Joannabecause of you I can now granny...yay! It was great to meet new people and I introduced myself to Kristy as im going to spend the day with her and others on the 18th making the Great Mulity Tasker. If your in Melbourne and Local check it out, I think Kirst still has places.

So over all I had a productive night. Thanks Pip for hosting.

Turn your back for a second.

and you will find this... Okay maybe it was more than a few seconds.

IMG_0569

Oh Taya what did you do ? Show mummy...

IMG_0570

Silly Mummy left Taya stamping on her own while she was doing other not so important stuff! Mummy has learned a valuable lesson. Poor Tay still had black hands and ink on her body even after plenty of scrubbing, oh well it will eventually fade I guess. Doesn't she remind you of Edward scissor hands? with the cute black lips... You gotta laugh. Would you belive this same girl ate a cupcake for afternoon tea, yer you say whats so unusual about that? I'II tell you or shall I show you?

IMG_0568

What 2 year old so you know that eats the cake and leaves the icing? Not normal I tell you. So guess who ate the rest , yep me!

On the crafting front I finished the Melly's Bag.."Birds of a Feather"

IMG_0561

I love it. It was the first time I used those magnetic closures, they were easy, except if you put them to close to the edge where you need to sew, then the foot on you sewing machine wont go over it so it makes you go around it and stuff's up your straight line a beauty. I added a mobile pocket inside too, but you could quite easily fit your mobile in the front pocket.

I finished and packed up my giveaway... I added a hand carved Owl Stamp.

IMG_0564

I didn't want to let it go, but I did. Im really getting into the stamp carving thing, but I think its time I moved on to the proper rubber, which Ive been told by Holly you can only buy in the U.S. :(  Any one in the USA up for a swap for some rubber?

IMG_0565

And finally I have completed Block #7 of the Breast of Friends BOM by Rosalie Quinlan. I enjoyed this one it was quick and relaxing. I used a different back ground which I will do for these little blocks. Ive traced the next block, and I can tell you Im not doing all those French knots... I think I'II just stitch the out line.

Have a good one!

One!

Where to start. Matilda Turned one yesterday, we all had a great day, it was quite relaxed.

IMG_0530

Matilda woke up from her Morning nap happy as usual!

IMG_0532

The kids made cupcakes, for Matilda! and made a great mess doing it too... I don't know how all you mums out there cook with kids? It drove me insane. But we managed.

IMG_0529

While the cupcakes were cooking I finished Tilly's top, I just appliqued and used scraps, im quite chuffed with how it turned out and got me thinking I may make one every year and add another doll with each passing year...would make for interesting photos for her to look back on, she'll either love me or hate it.

IMG_0539

After all the cakes were iced, it was off to Nanna's house yay!

IMG_0549

Where Tilly received her present from us. She absolutely fell in love with this little gal!

IMG_0562

Made by the fab Jennifer From Frazzy Dazzles! Isn't she just to cute for words! (minus the thread)

As I mentioned last post I asked jen if she would make a doll, but I wanted a blondie to match Tilly, and this is what she came up with, I love how she turned out. I think I was lucky to get her cause Jen's little one was quite taken by her too, and who could blame her. We are still thinking of a name?

IMG_0551

After a yummy dinner we sang happy birthday and the kids all enjoyed the cupcakes we made, so did some bigger kids too. I made chocolate ripple cake, I forgot how easy and yum it is...might have to make another,,, and that was that, my baby is one. This year has flown, Tilly is such an easy child, always happy and calm and sleeps well, eats well, thank gawd I got my tubes done or it would possibly mean #5!

HAPPY 1ST BIRTHDAY TILLY!

Keeping Busy...

Hey, hows it going? Ive been keeping myself busy, crafting, weeding and getting ready for someones birthday.

I managed to whip up another owl for the giveaway that I had.

IMG_0519

I know your probably over the owl thing, but I had a bit of a realization with this guy. Simple is sometimes better. I made this owl keeping in mind it will end up in the hand's of a toddler. So no buttons. I love my other owls too, but I love the simplicity of this one and the fact that its my own pattern and its come together in a way im happy with.

IMG_0517

Hoot.

IMG_0520

Don't know about the flower on the tail, it looks more like a.... well u know! Sorry lets move on, I started to put together my Melly and Me bag from the "Girls Day Out". Which I hope to finish today.

IMG_0521

"Feather Friends" is coming together nicely, Im loving the colours too. Ive also started to put together my next block for Breast of Friends, which im actually looking forward to doing now that Leanne showed me her applique techniques.

IMG_0522

And lastly..I think, This little miss is turning One tomorrow!

IMG_0364

Don't mind the sauce face! My mum has kindly offered to cook dinner at her place tomorrow, so all I need to bring is the cake! It's easier for my Grandparents to be at my mums, Yes Matilda is lucky enough to have her Great Grandparents... my Nonna and Nonno are in the late 80's and are amazingly still quite well and living life, which is fantastic!

I cant wait to show you what I got Tilly made from the lovely and very talented Jenifer! She kindly made Tilly's gift and in record time too. I ordered it not expecting it to be finished before her birthday, but Jen had it done in a week! Thanks so much your a ledgend... Please do  visit Jenifer's Blog, she makes the most amazing Dolls, Animals and Clips.

Big Weekend..

Hello ladies,

How was your weekend? Mine was pretty long. I had my friends wedding on sunday, and it was a great night.

IMG_0498

The bride looked perfect in her princess dress and the Groom was just has hansom! The wedding gave Mr Monty and excuse to pull out the old Chev.

IMG_0453

She's a 57' Chev Bel-air, and very original, we brought her from the US and have been trying to sell her with out much success, but we are in no rush, it was fun to get around in her on the weekend.

Remember the cross stitch I started as a wedding present?

IMG_0399

Well, as it turns out they ended up as ring pillows. I finished each one with the oval and their initial inside, I backed it with satin and finished it off with some black trim. I didnt take a photo of them :(

But I will try and get one when I see them again. I did manage to finish this BOM

IMG_0513

Just need to block it, then I need to get back onto the Breast of friend BOM.

I received a pack age form Mekel for the oWL i made her. I asked for a sewing Mag and I got this in the mail this morning.

IMG_0514

Its very cool mixed media mag, sewing, photos etc. and an Owl blank booklet that I can make my own!

Thanks Mekel. Which reminds me I need to get cracking on my giveaway owl to send off. I hope you all had a productive weekend.

Grils Day Out...in Shepparton

Oops Did I say id be back tomorrow and its been two days? Sorry folks...life has been hectic, yes even this laid back mum gets run off her feet too.

Well as I mentioned a few times I participated in the "Girls Day Out", run by Country Thyme Patchwork in Maroopna. It started at 10am, which was great as Mum and I drove the two hour trip leaving here at 8am. The event was held at a cafe type thing and was very full of lots of crafty people indeed.

We were joined by Leanne, Rosie and Melly. all of whom I love and follow all their blogs. Each table got some one on one time with the ladies. Melly signed her new book for me, and showed us all how to do a colonial knot. I choose to do Melly's Bag, and got a start on it.

IMG_0433

So this is the end result, I hope to end up with something similar...

IMG_0432

This was Melly's little Table set up with all her goodies! So much colour, you can help but feel good when you look at it.

IMG_0438

Here's the lovely Rosalie, Teaching her Punch Needle technique. She made it look so easy that I had to buy one and yesterday I went and brought some variegated thread so I can have a go at it soon.

IMG_0439

This is the pattern we all got in our goodie bags, so sweet. It sort of look like a miniature carpet.

Check out Claire's Blog, for more of a close up. Claire attended the Sunday, I recon it's not as easy as Rosalie makes out.

IMG_0442

How gorgeous is this pattern from Melly and Me... The little Chickie's are so small and sweet. I may just have to make one up for a friend who's expecting her second. Excuses hey.

Leanne taught us heaps too. She showed us all how to sew on Ric Rac, and the tricks to it. The other thing she taught us was needle turn applique. Which im so happy about as its in alot of the blocks for the Breast of Friends Quilt Im making. All in all it was a great day... but it didn't end there for me, I went home stuffed some food down and got ready for a Hens night out on the town! We went to the Ice Lounge in Russel St, everything including the bar and glasses are made ofice! It was awesome. If your in Melbourne or just visiting I recommend it. Of course we didn't end there, needless to say I got home in the wee hours of the morning. I haven't done that in so long...and I discovered cocktails don't give me a hangover! That would be right,  no cheap shout for me anymore....

My Creative Space

Oh my its thursday already! Ive been working on a block for a charity quilt which will be auctioned off to raise money for cancer research. Its part of the "Girls Day Out" this weekend run by Country Thyme Ppatchwork, which I have mentioned before. Can you tell Im excited? A day with no kids and crafting with Super Cool People!

IMG_0422

The theme for the Block was Flowers and it had to be in Pink, yellow and white. I used all vintage materials except for the fork.

IMG_0423

The Gingham is actually a thrifted table cloth, and the Napkin is a real vintage napkin, The plate is made form the main part of the napkin and  the flowers are from a vintage sheet, appliqued and sewn around the edges by machine. I think I veered off the flower them though? Its more a dinner theme... Oh well.

Don't forget to enter my Giveaway below! And to check out heaps of other crafty creatures at Kirsty's

Pay it Forward

  • You are The Moon

    Hope, expectation, Bright promises.

The Moon is a card of magic and mystery - when prominent you know that nothing is as it seems, particularly when it concerns relationships. All logic is thrown out the window.

The Moon is all about visions and illusions, madness, genius and poetry. This is a card that has to do with sleep, and so with both dreams and nightmares. It is a scary card in that it warns that there might be hidden enemies, tricks and falsehoods. But it should also be remembered that this is a card of great creativity, of powerful magic, primal feelings and intuition. You may be going through a time of emotional and mental trial; if you have any past mental problems, you must be vigilant in taking your medication but avoid drugs or alcohol, as abuse of either will cause them irreparable damage. This time however, can also result in great creativity, psychic powers, visions and insight. You can and should trust your intuition.
